Let’s be totes honest for a sec:
Why does self-care sometimes feel like just another exhausting thing on our infinite to-do list?

Sooooooo much advice telling you how to care for yourself: Go to sleep earlier. Get up earlier. Meditate. Eat a ‘clean’ diet. Grow your own food. Take a long relaxing bubble bath after you’ve bulk made food for the week, catered to the needs of all your family and friends, and spent quality time engaging in your hobbies that you obviously still have the time, energy, and money to enjoy!
But inside, you’re feeling guilty, overwhelmed, or completely depleted. You actually don’t have the capacity to radically rearrange your life so you’re the main character again. You feel you’ve already failed at life before you’ve even finished reading the “inspiring” social media post.

I recently saw an IG post that implied the author felt less pressure to take drugs as a teen than she experiences now, as an adult, to get 10k daily steps, eat her veg, stay wrinkle-free, take protein powder, magnesium & build muscle etc! I agree!
If you find self-care hard work, I want you to give yourself a massive break, right now.
Here is the truth: It’s not easy existing in a world that demands you put everyone else’s needs before your own.
We live in a culture that rewards hustle and burnout and implies if we’re running on empty because we are trying to do, be, and have EVERYTHING we desire, then there is something wrong with ‘us’.
Be realistic (only for a second, though!)
You are a human flesh vessel; not a machine.
You cannot be, do, & have EVERYTHING without consequences to your physical and mental health.
So, when you finally have the courage to pause and rest it feels wrong. Why? Because pausing and resting are acts of rebellion.
The Anatomy of Radical Self-Care
True self-care isn’t scented candles, a personal trainer, and regular massages (although those are lovely if you can invest in them).
Genuine, deep-level self-care takes immense courage and consistency. It requires three things that the ego often fights against:
Radical Self-Honesty 🔎 Admitting to yourself when you are running on fumes, instead of pretending “everything is fine.” I’ll just get through this first, then…
Self-Acceptance & Compassion 💚 Treating your beautiful flesh vessel with kindness when it’s tired, rather than criticizing it for not doing more coz other people seem to cope better.
Fierce Boundaries 🛑 A commitment to showing up for yourself and holding the line, instead of letting others trample all over your precious time and energy.
Walking the Talk:
Why do I write about this shiz and make it my mission to blart to others about self-care?
I teach this stuff because self-care is essential for our wellbeing. Compassion means trying to alleviate the suffering of others and my most compassionate self doesn’t want anyone to suffer unnecessarily.
Right now, my physical flesh vessel and personal life are throwing some massive transitions and “ouchy side quests” on my path because I’m not well versed at listening to my body and prioritising my needs – yet!
So, Life recently required me to make some big choices, set fierce boundaries, and embrace a whole new chapter of personal autonomy.
…and it’s NOT easy! It definitely wasn’t all scented candles and bubble baths for me. Some days it felt like everything was on fire and yet somehow I was drowning.
My ego wanted me to push through, mask up, and pretend everything is a walk in the park. My body said: No chance, Love! You WILL rest.
Radical self-care says: It is safe to take time to sit on that bench in the park. You need to be honest with yourself and what is really going on in your life. You need to learn to accept where you are now, that it is different from where you want to be, and that is OK.
So, I am also doing the deep work behind the scenes. I am leaning on my own support systems, practising the art of surrender, and fiercely protecting my boundaries. I am right in the trenches of change with you. My routine looks a little different right now, but my sparkle is fully intact, if not fully evident 🤣
A Quick Check-In:
Take a deep breath, right now. Expand your belly, drop your shoulders away from your ears, and turn the corners of your mouth up into a smile.
Ask yourself gently:
Where am I leaking my energy and spending my time where I don’t want to?
Where in my life do I need to practise more radical self-care?
Is self-care saying “no” to an extra task? Is it reclaiming your autonomy in a situation that drains you? Is it finally allowing yourself to rest, before your body ensures that is the only option left.

Ready to Reclaim Your Sparkle?
If you are tired of running on empty and you’re not entirely sure how to navigate your own transitions, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Change can be scary and the outcomes uncertain. That is why some people would rather continue to exist with discomfort and moan about their dissatisfying lives, because they are familiar and predictable even though they don’t feel good.
Confide in friends who will support you to become a radically well-rested version of yourself. Or find a Coach you vibe with, who can gently challenge and empower you to move towards where you want to be.
