Three questions (Qs) you could ask yourself when setting new goals:
What do I want?
Why do I want it?
How do I get it?
These three questions could be used for selfish gains that benefit only yourself and may provide temporary happiness, or they could be asked to achieve something that will benefit yourself and others.
Prosocial behaviour has shown to be more beneficial for increased physical and psychological wellbeing (Guo et al., 2018; Nelson et al., 2016) than only self-focused acts of kindness. So, it may benefit you to think how your goals may impact others.
What can stand in the way of achieving your goals?
According to Stacey, there are 3 Fs:
Finances – In the past, lack of financial flourishing made me stop dreaming, as I focused on daily survival and keeping a roof over our heads. Nancy Klein asserts when we are focused on survival, we fail to thrive and flourish, as we are focused on self-protection instead of personal growth. While we may blame ourselves for our failures, external sociocultural factors may also limit our success.
Money comes and goes. Time only goes. Invest wisely.

However, we cannot allow lack of financial abundance to stop us from working towards our overarching goals. We can still choose to take steps in the direction we want to go, no matter how small. They all add up. As affirmed by Lao Tzu, even the journey of a thousand miles starts with one step.
Fear – Fear is only False Evidence Appearing Real, yet it can seem so real that we feel it in our physical bodies (e.g., increased heart rate, anxious sweating etc.). Fear can stop us even trying to achieve our goals. Yet often our greatest opportunities and growth come when we dare to step outside of our comfort zones. Feel the fear and do it anyway!
Fatigue – Feeling like we are getting nowhere slowly can make us tired of trying and we may feel like giving up. But Stacey says, “that’s why God created naps” : D Honour and celebrate what you have already accomplished, no matter how small you think it may be. Be grateful you are here, now, and create a healthy sleep routine, so you can function more effectively. Be gentle on yourself when things don’t go according to plan.
